Welcome
Thank you for visiting.
I'm very excited to be running for a second term as Treasurer in the 2021 American Mensa election.
The election will be held from April 15 - May 15, 2021. Members must renew on time (by March 31 at 11:59pm CDT) to be eligible to vote. If you have not yet renewed, do so today. Believe me, your vote does matter! In 2013, one candidate was elected by a one vote margin.
I invite you to take the time to learn more about me and my vision for Mensa. This organization has brought so many wonderful people and experiences into my own life. I will do my best to ensure that it continues to offer value to all of its members.
If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact me.
My Personal Background
I am a Senior Accountant for a family-owned construction subcontractor in Houston, TX. I received my Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting from University of Houston-Downtown in August 2015. I am currently studying for the Certified Management Accountant exam.
I've been married to the wonderful Jimmy Criss for eight years.
My Mensa Background
My parents joined Lonestar Mensa in Austin (now Central Texas Mensa) together in 1985. I was born in December 1986. The running joke in my family has often been that I attended my first Mensa meetings while still in utero. Mensa was a large part of my upbringing. Between the two of them, my parents were LocSec, Vice LocSec, Treasurer, Secretary, Member-At-Large, Editor, Circulation Manager, and Proctor at some point in time. They also headed various SIGs, and our family was attending some Mensa event or other at least once a week.
My Vision
I feel that Mensa is a dynamic and ever-changing organization. Our members have a wide range of interests and priorities, and it follows that Mensa membership will mean something different to every member. For me, Mensa is primarily, and most importantly, a social organization. While we have several worthwhile endeavors in addition to the social aspect, such as scholarships, community service and gifted youth resources, I firmly believe that everything comes back to personal interaction between members - whether in person or online.
Testimonials
"It isn't always easy to be a newbie - to walk in not knowing anyone and wonder if you will feel like an outsider. Yet, if you are lucky enough to meet Taz - it will not be long before you feel like you belong, and always have. Taz has a passion for Mensa that is palpable - she is fun and funny - and through it all puts the best interest of Mensa first. I can not imagine a better candidate to help lead this organization than Taz."
